Our Origin

A Son's Tribute. A Community's Gain.

In 2005, Md Monir Hossain started this foundation in memory of his late father, Siraj Mia. The goal was simple: give back to the community in a structured, meaningful way.

Siraj Mia was a man who believed deeply in community, in hospitality, and in the quiet dignity of helping others without expectation. His son wanted to keep that spirit alive, not just in memory but in action.

What began as a personal act of remembrance has grown into a foundation with four active programs, tens of thousands of meals served, and a community that has come to rely on and celebrate SMMF's work year after year.

Two Decades of Service

2005

Foundation Established

Md Monir Hossain founds the Siraj Mia Memorial Foundation in Dhaka in memory of his late father Siraj Mia, with a mission to give back to the community in a structured way.

2005

Siraj Mia Memorial Model School Established

The foundation invests ৳4 crore building the Siraj Mia Memorial Model School in Badda, Dhaka. It now employs 100 staff and educates 1,250 students. For 7 years straight it has held 1st position in SSC results across Badda thana.

2020

Covid-19 Emergency Relief

The foundation spends ৳2 crore responding to the pandemic — distributing 10,000 surgical masks, hundreds of tonnes of rice and essentials to over 6,000 families across Dhaka. An anonymous drop-box system was set up at the school for middle-class families too proud to ask publicly.

2022

Sylhet Flood Relief

When devastating flash floods submerged nearly 70% of Sunamganj in July 2022, SMMF mobilised within hours and reached 1,200 families in remote flood-affected areas of Sylhet and Sunamganj before official relief convoys arrived.

2024, ongoing

Ramadan Iftar Program Launches

SMMF begins its annual Ramadan Iftar distribution, ensuring every fasting community member can break their fast with a proper meal throughout the holy month.

2025, ongoing

Weekly Jummah Program Launches

The flagship ongoing program launches, serving a warm community meal every Friday after Jummah prayers, every week of the year.

The foundation crossed 22,000 total meals served, with ৳39 lakh raised and deployed across all programs.
